Terms & Conditions
These terms set out the agreement between you and PS English when you book lessons with us through this website.
We have written them in plain English because we think you should be able to read a set of terms without a law degree.

1. Who these terms are between
These terms are an agreement between you (the person booking and taking lessons, or the person paying for someone else's lessons) and PS English Limited, an English language school based in London, United Kingdom. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 08050147.
If you have any questions about these terms before you book, you can contact us at:
- ask@psenglish.co.uk
- Post
- PS English Limited, 37 Abbots Gardens, London N2 0JG
- Registered office
- Hathaway House, Popes Drive, London N3 1QF
You can also use the Contact page for general enquiries.
2. How a booking works
Most of our students start with a free 20-minute consultation. There is no commitment on either side: if it is not the right fit after the consultation, you do not book, and no payment is taken.
If you decide to go ahead after the consultation, you can either:
- choose a discounted £20 60-minute trial lesson, for which you will receive an invoice which will require payment before the trial lesson commences; or
- skip the trial lesson and go directly to a plan (Flexi Essential or Flexi Premium), a lesson length, and a package size. We send you an invoice for the package you have chosen.
Your contract with us begins, and these terms apply, once you have paid that invoice in full and we have confirmed your first scheduled lesson by email.
Up to that point, nothing is owed and nothing is committed. Full details of how prices work are on our Pricing page .
3. Your right to change your mind
Because you are buying lessons online, UK consumer law gives you a 14-day right to change your mind. The 14 days run from the day after you pay for a package.
In practice, this means:
- If you have not taken any lessons yet and you change your mind within 14 days of paying, we refund the full amount.
- If you have already taken one or more lessons within those 14 days, we refund the package cost minus the value of the lessons you have used, charged at the headline (non-discounted) rate for the lesson length you took.
- If you ask us to start lessons during the 14-day window, you are agreeing that the cooling-off period ends as soon as your lessons have started. You keep the right to cancel any unused portion, as set out above.
To cancel within the 14-day window, simply email us at ask@psenglish.co.uk and say so. You do not need to give a reason. We will confirm the cancellation and process any refund within 14 days of your request.
4. Cancelling or rescheduling a lesson
Life happens, and we do not expect every lesson to run exactly as planned. The rules below apply to individual lessons within a package you have already paid for.
- More than 24 hours before the lesson
- You can cancel or reschedule with no charge. The lesson goes back into your package and you book it again when it suits you.
- Less than 24 hours before the lesson
- The lesson is normally charged in full, because your teacher's time has been blocked out for you and we cannot fill the slot at short notice. The lesson counts as used and comes off your package.
- Flexi Premium plan
- The Premium plan includes one free 24-hour cancellation per calendar month, which exists for the unavoidable last-minute clashes that life occasionally produces. Beyond that one allowance, the standard 24-hour rule applies.
- If your teacher needs to cancel
- If we need to cancel or reschedule a lesson on our side, we will give you as much notice as we can, and the lesson stays in your package at no cost to you. If we cancel with less than 24 hours' notice and we cannot find a time within the next two weeks that works for both of you, you can choose between a temporary teacher at a time convenient to you, or waiting until your existing teacher is available, with an automatic extension of your booking expiry date if required.
- Late arrivals
- If you are late to a lesson, the lesson still ends at the scheduled time. We will not run a lesson significantly past its scheduled end if it makes us late for the next student.
5. Refunds beyond the 14-day window
Once the 14-day cooling-off period has ended, lessons you have already taken are not refundable. 75% of the value of unused lessons within your package can be refunded to you if you need to end your contract early.
6. How long your package lasts
- Flexi Essential
- Lessons in a Flexi Essential package will be calculated to expire based on the frequency of planned lesson uptake agreed upon at the time of payment, with an added 50% buffer to allow for holidays and occasional cancellations. Lessons not taken within this specified period will expire and are not refundable.
- A worked example
- 4 x 60-minute weekly lessons. Start lessons: 1st April. Minimum period needed to complete lessons would be 4 weeks. We add a 50% buffer. Expiry date: 6th May.
- Flexi Premium
- Lessons in a Flexi Premium package do not expire. You can use them at the pace that suits you, including taking long breaks if your work or family commitments need you to.
If your Essential package is approaching its expiry date and you have unused hours, we will email you in good time so you can either book the remaining lessons or, where it makes sense, discuss extending or transferring them under section 5 above.
7. Payment
Packages are paid upfront, in a single payment, by bank transfer, debit card, or credit card. We do not run monthly direct debits or rolling subscriptions. We send you an invoice before payment and a receipt once payment is confirmed. All prices on our website are in pounds sterling. VAT does not currently apply.
8. If your employer is paying
Many of our students are funded in full or in part by their employer. We are happy to invoice your company directly, work to a purchase order, and provide any paperwork your finance team needs. In those cases, your employer is the customer for invoicing and payment purposes, and you remain the person whose lessons these are. If your employment with that company ends, or your employer decides to stop funding the lessons, you can choose between continuing the package at your own cost on the same terms, or pausing the package until a new arrangement is agreed. Unused, unpaid lessons cannot be carried on without payment.
9. What we promise, and what we cannot promise
We promise to teach you with care, to bring 25 years of experience teaching English in London to every lesson, and to focus on the real English you actually need for your work, your studies, and your life. We do not promise specific outcomes such as a particular IELTS band, a job offer, or the removal of your accent, because progress in language learning depends on factors that are partly yours and partly ours. We will tell you honestly how we think you are progressing, and we will tell you honestly if we do not think we are the right teachers for what you are trying to achieve.
10. Conduct and mutual respect
Our teachers will treat you with respect, patience, and professionalism. We ask you to do the same. We reserve the right to end a lesson, suspend a package, or, in serious cases, terminate the agreement without refund of used hours, if a student behaves abusively or inappropriately towards a teacher or member of staff. In any such case, we will be clear with you in writing about what has happened and what comes next.
11. Our liability to you
We take our responsibilities seriously and we are liable to you for any losses that we cause and that are a foreseeable result of us not meeting our side of this agreement. "Foreseeable" means that, at the time you entered into this agreement with us, both you and we could reasonably expect that those losses might happen if we did not perform.
We do not exclude or limit our liability to you in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. For all other losses, our total liability to you under or in connection with this agreement is limited to the total amount you have paid us for the lessons in question.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time, for example if we change the way we run our lessons, our pricing model, or our cancellation policy. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of the page. The terms that apply to your package are the ones that were in place on the day you paid for it. We will not change the terms of a package you have already bought.
13. This page is not legal advice
These terms set out the agreement between you and PS English in relation to lessons booked through this website. They are not legal advice, and they do not replace any rights you have under UK law. If anything on this page is unclear, or if you would like to discuss any of it before you book, please get in touch . We will reply.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from them will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer based in another part of the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK in which you live.
