Is this you?

Who Business English lessons are for

Business English at PS English is for non-native English speakers who already use English at work and want to use it better. Most of our students are professionals working in the UK or working with UK-based colleagues and clients, and they come to us because they want their English to match the quality of the work they already do. We are not a beginner school. If you can read this page comfortably, you are very likely the right level for us.

Business English lessons work especially well for:

Professionals new to a UK role who need to settle quickly into English-language work, meetings and email

Managers and team leads running mixed-language teams, often with English as the common working language

Specialists and technical staff whose work is strong but whose English is holding back how that work lands with colleagues and clients

Business owners and freelancers working with UK and international clients in English

Job-seekers preparing for interviews, applications and a new role in an English-speaking workplace

A team meeting around a boardroom table with a city view

What you work on in Business English lessons

Every Business English lesson at PS English is built around your real work. We do not work through a fixed syllabus. In your first lesson, your teacher works out where you are and what you actually need to do in English, then plans the lessons that follow around those situations. Most students focus on some combination of the areas below, in whatever proportion suits the work they do.

Written business English

Emails, reports, proposals, summaries, LinkedIn posts. Clearer writing, correct register, the small habits that make written English read as professional rather than translated.

Spoken business English

Calls, meetings, video calls, day-to-day conversation with colleagues and clients. Confidence, clarity, pronunciation, and the natural phrases that move a conversation forward.

Meetings

Following, contributing to, and chairing meetings in English.

English for Meetings
Presentations

Building and delivering a presentation in English, from the opening line to handling questions.

English Presentation Skills
Networking and small talk

The unwritten rules of professional conversation, introductions and follow-up.

English for Networking
Job interviews and applications

Preparing for interviews, refining a CV, answering common questions, telling your story well.

English for Job Interviews
Industry-specific vocabulary

The language of your particular field, brought into lessons through real materials from your own work where you are happy to share them.

Why PS English

How our Business English lessons are different

1

Lessons, not a course

Business English at PS English is not a packaged course with a fixed curriculum and a fixed number of weeks. It is a series of one-to-one lessons built around the work you actually do, the level you are actually at, and the situations you actually face. Two students working on Business English with us will rarely have the same lesson plan.

2

Experienced British teachers

Our teachers are native British English speakers with years of experience teaching adult professionals. You learn natural British English from someone who has taught it for a long time, not from a platform that has matched you with the next available person on a global roster.

3

Real working English

The English in our lessons is the English you will actually hear and use in a UK or UK-facing workplace. Email tone, meeting conventions, the difference between "could you" and "would you mind", the small phrases that change how a request lands. Practical, not academic.

4

Flexible, online or in person

Lessons fit around your schedule, not the other way around. Take them online from anywhere in the world, in person in London, or mix the two as it suits you. Reschedule when work gets in the way; that is normal, not a problem.

What our Business English students say
I had been using English at work for fifteen years and still felt like I was guessing in meetings. After three months of one-to-one lessons with PS English I was leading them. The lessons were practical, honest and exactly what I needed for the work I actually do.

Getting started

How it works

1

Book a free consultation

Tell us a little about your role, your industry, and the English you need to do your work well. We will match you with a teacher and book a trial lesson at a time that suits you, including outside standard working hours where needed.

2

Meet your teacher

Your first lesson is a real lesson, at a discounted price. You and your teacher discuss your goals, look at some of your actual working English (an email, a recent meeting, a presentation you have given) and agree what you want to focus on. No commitment, no pressure.

3

Start your lessons

When you are ready, book a block of lessons online or face-to-face in London. Your teacher tailors each lesson to the work you are doing that week. Most Business English students book lessons in blocks of ten or twenty and adjust as their needs change.

Frequently asked questions

What is a business English course?

A Business English course is a structured programme of lessons focused on the English used in professional and workplace situations. That covers written English such as emails, reports and proposals, spoken English for meetings, calls and presentations, and the vocabulary of business and management. At PS English, our Business English lessons are not run as a packaged course with a fixed curriculum. Each student has a personalised lesson plan, built around their actual work, level and goals, and adjusted as those change.

Is business English different from regular English?

Yes, but not in the way most people expect. The grammar is the same. The vocabulary overlaps with everyday English far more than people think. What is different is the situations, the register, and the small conventions. Knowing how to chair a meeting politely, how to write a clear email that does not sound rude, when to use formal phrasing and when to relax it, and the vocabulary of your particular industry are all part of Business English. Most learners who already speak English well find that Business English is mostly about polish and confidence rather than a completely new language.

Which skills do you focus on most in your lessons?

We prioritise speaking and listening above all else. In the modern workplace, your ability to contribute to a meeting, negotiate a deal, or simply deal with the challenge of keeping up with the flow of conversation matter most. Our lessons are designed to build your confidence in these interactive environments so you can express complex ideas clearly and respond to colleagues with ease. That said, if your primary concern is about expressing yourself appropriately in writing, then we can switch focus and target your writing skills. This is the benefit of 1-1 lessons built around your particular situation.

What is the best way to learn business English?

The most effective way to improve Business English, in our experience after 25 years of teaching, is one-to-one lessons built around the work you actually do. Group classes can be useful for general English at lower levels, but Business English is too specific to the individual student. The vocabulary, the situations and the register all depend on the work, and a teacher who can adapt every lesson to your particular role will move you forward faster than a fixed curriculum. Consistent practice matters more than intensity. One or two well-prepared lessons a week, with real-world practice in between, will take most students further than a short, intense burst.

Can I speak English fluently in three months?

If you are already at intermediate level or above, three months of focused one-to-one Business English lessons will make a real, visible difference to your confidence and clarity at work. "Fluent" is a slippery word and it is honest to say that going from intermediate to genuinely fluent usually takes longer than three months. What most professionals notice within three months is that meetings stop being stressful, emails take less time to write, and the gap between what they want to say and what comes out gets much smaller. That is the change worth aiming for.

What level do I need to be to take Business English lessons?

We work with students from intermediate (CEFR B1) upwards. If you can hold a basic work conversation in English and understand most of what is said back, you are the right level for us. If you are a complete beginner, Business English is the wrong starting point and we will say so honestly in the consultation.

How much do Business English lessons cost?

Our pricing is on the Pricing page. Lessons are priced per hour and most Business English students book in blocks. Many of our students are funded by their employer for some or all of their lessons; if that is your situation, we are happy to invoice your company directly.

Are lessons online or face-to-face?

Both are available. Most students choose online, which makes scheduling around work easier. Face-to-face lessons are available in London for students who prefer them, and many students mix the two. Online lessons use Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, whichever you already use at work. You can read more on our Online English Coach and Face-to-Face Lessons in London pages.
