Who face-to-face lessons suit
Face-to-face lessons suit people who want the focus and energy of talking with their teacher in person, with no screen in between. As a private English tutor in London, we work with professionals based in and around the city, executives here for a project or a season, university students preparing for exams and academic life, and anyone who simply learns better in person. The teaching is the same as our online teaching. The absence of a screen is the difference.

We come to you. That is the whole point.
We deliberately do not run a teaching room. A school building means every student travels to it, at the school's convenience rather than theirs, and in London that is the reason weekly lessons quietly stop happening. Instead, your teacher travels to you, so the lesson fits into your day rather than rearranging it.
At your office
A meeting room, a quiet corner, or a booked space in your building. Popular with students whose employer funds the lessons, because an hour out of the diary really is an hour.
At home
A kitchen table works perfectly well. Common with students who prefer to learn away from work, or who are fitting lessons around family.
A quiet public space
A café you like, a members’ area, the calmer corner of a museum. Your teacher will suggest options near you if you would rather not host.
Most in-person lessons happen in Zones 1 and 2. If you are a little further out, tell us where and when and we will be honest about whether it works.
An hour of lessons stays an hour, not an hour plus two journeys. That is usually the difference between lessons you keep and lessons you abandon in week five.
What to bring: yourself, a notebook if you use one, and anything specific you want to work on. Your teacher brings the rest. If your week is unpredictable, you can also mix in-person and online lessons with the same teacher and the same plan.
How face-to-face lessons work
Face-to-face lessons are real one-to-one lessons with the same teacher every week. They are conversations, with structure. You sit down together, you do most of the talking, and the lesson is built around the English you need to use this week.
The lesson
One hour by default, one-to-one, with the same teacher each time. Your teacher plans around what you need, brings the materials, and adapts in the moment based on how you are doing. Lessons extend to 90 or 120 minutes if you prefer a longer session.
Materials and practice
Reading, writing tasks, notes and slides are worked through together at the table, then left with you in print or sent on by email. Bring the real document you are worried about, a presentation, an email, a piece of academic writing, and we work on it there and then.
Your teacher
One teacher who knows you, your level, your work and what you are trying to do in English. That continuity is the main reason our students progress faster than they did at schools where the teacher changes each term. A native British English speaker with years of experience teaching adults.
Scheduling
Usually weekly at a regular time, but the schedule is yours. Some students take two lessons a week in the run-up to something specific. You can pause and resume around holidays and busy periods, and the cancellation terms are the same as our online lessons.

Questions about face-to-face lessons in London
Where exactly are face-to-face lessons held?
Wherever suits you. Your teacher travels to you, so lessons take place at your office, at home, or in a quiet public space such as a café or a museum members’ area. We work across London, typically in Zones 1 and 2. We do not run a teaching room, which means you do not have to travel to one.
How much do face-to-face English lessons in London cost?
Face-to-face lessons are £50 for 60 minutes on Flexi Essential and £60 for 60 minutes on Flexi Premium, with a 60-minute minimum. The discounts for longer lessons and larger prepaid packages are the same percentages as our online pricing, which the pricing page sets out in full. Your consultation is free and the in-person trial lesson is £30.
Can I do some lessons in person and some online?
Yes. Many of our students mix the two depending on their week, their travel and their workload. The teaching is the same, the teacher is the same, and the lesson plan continues without a break. Booking a block does not commit you to one format. Email us for a quotation for a mixed package.
Do I need to live in London to take face-to-face lessons?
You need to be somewhere your teacher can reach, which in practice means Zones 1 and 2 for most lessons. Plenty of our students live in the home counties or commuter towns and take lessons at their London office, or online from home when they are not in town. If you cannot be in London regularly, online lessons are the better fit.
What level do I need to be to start lessons?
We work with adult learners from intermediate (CEFR B1) upwards. If you can hold a basic one-to-one conversation in English and understand most of what is said back to you, you are the right level for us. Below that, we will be honest at the consultation and either suggest a starting point or point you somewhere better suited.
Are face-to-face lessons better than online?
The honest answer is that the teaching is the same; the in-person dynamic is the only variable. Some students prefer face-to-face for the focus, the change of scene and the time away from a screen. Others prefer online for the convenience. Many mix the two. The best format is the one you will actually attend every week, and the consultation is the easiest way to work out which that is.
