Every lesson at PS English is one teacher and one student. No fixed curriculum, no group of strangers, no waiting your turn. In your first lesson, your teacher works out where you are and what you actually need to do in English: a meeting, a presentation, a job interview, university seminars, everyday conversation, or all of the above. Every lesson after that is built around those real situations, not around a textbook. We have been teaching English in London this way for 25 years.

Every lesson is one-to-one and built around you. No fixed curriculum, no group of strangers, no waiting your turn. Your teacher plans each lesson around the situations you actually face.
Native British teachers
Our teachers are native British English speakers with years of experience teaching adults. You get warm, patient, practical teaching from someone who understands what learning English as a second language is really like.
Real English, not textbook English
The English in our lessons is the English you will actually hear at work, on the train, in a meeting, or at the pub. We focus on natural British English, including pronunciation, intonation, and the small phrases that make a real difference.
Flexible, online or in person
Lessons fit around your schedule, not the other way around. Take them online from anywhere in the UK, in person in London, or mix the two as it suits you.
I came to PS English because I had a presentation to give to the senior leadership team in six weeks and I was dreading it. My teacher rebuilt my structure, worked through the language with me line by line, and rehearsed the difficult moments until they stopped being difficult. How it works
Book a 20-minute consultation to match you with a teacher
We usually hold this over Zoom with our Principal. In this conversation, we confirm your goals, any preferences for lesson content that you have, and a time for lessons that works for you.
Your 60-minute online trial lesson for £20
You meet the teacher we have matched for you and who is available to teach you beyond the first lesson. They ask some more follow-up questions, assess your English further, offer you a flavour of the teaching style and content they think will benefit you, and together you agree what comes next. You are also welcome to skip the trial lesson and select a block of lessons to get going straightaway.
You decide
No pressure either way. Most students book a block of lessons after the trial, but plenty take a few days to think it over, and a few decide PS English is not the right fit or request another lesson with a different teacher. All of those are fine.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to learn English with a tutor?
One-to-one lessons with a consistent teacher, focused on the situations you actually face. Group classes are cheaper but slower, and online marketplaces give you a different teacher each time. The students who progress fastest are the ones who work with the same teacher week after week, on the English they actually need to use. That is what we do.
How much does an English tutor cost in the UK?
One-to-one English tuition in the UK typically ranges from around £30 per hour at the budget end of online marketplaces to over £100 per hour for executive coaching with established schools. Our lessons sit in the middle of that range, with block discounts available. Are online English tutors as effective as face-to-face?
For most adult learners, yes. The teaching is the same; only the room is different. Online lessons remove the travel time that often makes weekly tuition hard to sustain, and they give you access to teachers wherever you are in the UK. Some students prefer face-to-face, and our London teachers offer that option too. Many students do a mix of both, and the teaching plan stays the same either way.
How many lessons a week do I need?
One hour a week is enough for steady, sustainable progress, and it is the most common pattern among our students. Two or three lessons a week speeds things up noticeably, especially if you have a specific event coming up (a presentation, an interview, an exam). Anything more than that and the limit becomes how much you can practise between lessons rather than the lessons themselves.
Can I focus on just one thing, like meetings or interviews?
Yes. Many students come to us for a specific situation: a meeting, a presentation, a job interview, a course of academic seminars. Lessons can be entirely focused on that one situation for as long as you need, then either end there or broaden out once the immediate need has been met.
